LIV Golf Adelaide: Anthony Kim admits being largely overwhelmed as he secures his first victory in 12 years
Back in 2008, Kim made history by becoming the first American under 25 to win two PGA Tour events in a single season, a feat that put him in rare company with Tiger Woods. He also stood out as the youngest member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team that year, collecting two-and-a-half points from four matches at age 23 during Europe’s loss at Valhalla.
In Adelaide, Kim faced a daunting challenge: he trailed the leaders, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, by five shots entering the final round. He responded with a blistering performance, drilling nine birdies on a closing 63 to soar to the top of the leaderboard at 23 under, finishing at Grange Golf Club.
Rahm closed with a 71, including two birdies and a bogey, leaving him three behind Kim on 20 under. DeChambeau could only manage two birdies and four bogeys in the final round, posting a 74 and ending at 17 under, tied with fellow American Peter Uihlein (68) and England’s Tyrell Hatton (67).
“It’s been overwhelming,” Kim said after the round. “But I’m always going to fight for my family.” He added, “God gave me a talent. I was able to produce some good golf today, and I knew it was coming.” He finished with a note of resilience: “Nobody else has to believe in me, but me. And for anyone who’s struggling, you can get through anything.”
