Leica Galleries, a global network of photography galleries, is celebrating 50 years of promoting photographic art. This milestone marks a half-century of showcasing and elevating exceptional photography worldwide. The journey began in 1976 with the opening of the first Leica Gallery in Wetzlar, Germany, which was a bold commitment to present photography as a serious and respected art form. Since then, the network has grown to 26 galleries worldwide, with plans to expand further with new locations in Chicago and Shanghai. Each gallery is unique, featuring a distinct design and layout, and hosts its own lineup of events and exhibitions throughout the year. The galleries champion both established masterpieces of photography and new, promising talent, with the series recognized by the Leica Oskar Barnack Award being a major feature of the annual exhibition program. Over the past 50 years, the galleries have presented countless iconic exhibitions, including works by renowned photographers like Inge Morath, Barbara Klemm, and Steve McCurry, as well as prominent figures including Bryan Adams and Jamie Cullum. The galleries have established themselves as an integral part of the international photography scene, with a focus on sharing enthusiasm for photography with a broad target group.
