Anaheim Ducks prospect Damian Clara had a remarkable performance in Italy's loss to Sweden at the Winter Olympics. In front of a home crowd, Clara made 46 saves, giving Italy a chance to upset the Swedes. However, he was forced out of the game with a suspected lower-body injury. The extent of Clara's injury is unknown, and it remains uncertain if he'll be fit for Italy's upcoming match against Slovakia on Friday. If not, Italy will turn to Davide Fadani, a Milan native with a .922 save percentage in 22 games this season for EHC Kloten in the Swiss National League.
Clara, aged 21, was a second-round pick for the Ducks in 2023 and has been playing in Sweden's top pro league, the SHL, this season. With Brynäs IF, he boasts an .888 save percentage in 30 games. Meanwhile, Cole Reschny, a 2025 first-round pick for the Calgary Flames, is questionable for the University of North Dakota's games this weekend against the University of Miami (Ohio). Reschny left UND's game last weekend with a lower-body injury, but he's had a strong start to his NCAA career, scoring 25 points in 24 games. He's considered a key part of the Flames' future, ranked as the league's No. 76 skater prospect.
In other news, former Winnipeg Jets prospect Ryan Olsen was released by the ECHL's Wichita Thunder today, ending his brief three-week stint in Kansas. Olsen, a 2012 sixth-round pick, has had a varied career, including a Kelly Cup championship with the Colorado Eagles in 2018 and subsequent seasons in the AHL and Germany's second and third divisions. His time in Wichita, which ended with zero points in six games, marked his first North American pro hockey appearance since October 2023.
